All about cats
How do the abdominal muscles in the cat compare with those in the human in terms of relative position ? They are similiar in that the external abdominal oblique is a broad, superficial muscle on the ventral abdomen . They are ventral rather than anterior.
How does the action of the rectus abdominis differ from that of the other abdominal muscles ? They all compress the abdominal wall but the rectus abdominis does NOT laterally rotate the trunk but DOES flex the vertbral column.
The first of these muscles , the superior rectus muscle , elevates the eye, allowing the eye to look up . The antagonist of the superior rectus muscle is the inferior rectus muscle , which depresses the eye, allowing the eye to look down.
transversus abdominis
abdominal muscles
Clavotrapezius, acromiotrapezius, & spinotrapezius are back muscles in the cat. There is one trapezius muscle in the human. The levator scapulae ventralis is found in the cat but is missing in the human. Caudofemoralis is found in the cat but not in the human.
The rectus abdominis muscles are a pair of long muscles that run vertically up the front of the abdomen, stretching from the pubis to the xiphoid process. They compress the viscera and tense the abdominal wall.
transversus abdominis
However there are a few muscles that help in forceful expiration and include the internal intercostals, intercostalis intimi, subcostals and the abdominal muscles . The muscles of inspiration elevate the ribs and sternum, and the muscles of expiration depress them..
diaphragm
The diaphragm is a musculotendinous sheet. It has three muscular parts (sternal, costal, and lumbar), each have their own origin and all insert into the central tendon of diaphragm.
During quiet breathing, the diaphragm and external intercostals must contract. A deep breath, called diaphragmatic breathing, requires the diaphragm to contract. As the diaphragm relaxes, air passively leaves the lungs. A shallow breath, called costal breathing, requires contraction of the intercostal muscles .
The V -shape or line is located where the obliques meet the transversus abdominis muscles. This line can be a physical display of hard work in the gym and discipline in the kitchen. To develop V -cut abs, target your lower abs and obliques.
nine layers
Abdominal muscle , any of the muscles of the anterolateral walls of the abdominal cavity, composed of three flat muscular sheets, from without inward: external oblique, internal oblique, and transverse abdominis, supplemented in front on each side of the midline by rectus abdominis.
