Sisal Rope
Sisal rope is a natural fiber twisted rope. Our sisal rope does not have any oils or chemicals. It is biodegradable and economical. Our sisal rope is pet safe and has been thoroughly tested and used for cat scratching posts and bird toys.
I recommend always using sisal rope and dying with fabric dye . Cats like to sharpen their claws on things they can shred, and they risk getting their claws caught on the synthetic stuff. Sisal rope is irresistible to cats !
Turn speakers toward the wall. Put plastic, double-sided sticky tape, sandpaper or upside-down vinyl carpet runner (knobby parts up) on furniture or on the floor where your cat would stand to scratch your furniture . Place scratching posts next to these objects, as “legal” alternatives. Clip your cat’s nails regularly.
Sisal
Put a dab of hot glue right by the old rope and place the new rope right on top so that the two ends become as seamless as possible. Place a small line of glue (about 1/2″ to 3/4″ long) on the bare post about 2″ away from where you last glued. Pull the rope tight and place it on top of the glue.
And no I am not talking about Elmer’s glue your five-year-old daughter uses to dump her glitter on. If this glue is ingested by your pet, as soon as it hits your pet’s stomach it will expand immediately and then harden. It can cause severe damages to your pets entrails by causing blockages or even expanding stomachs.
The most common type of post consists of a wooden post , roughly 60–90 cm (24–36 inches) tall, covered in rough fabric or sisal. The post is mounted vertically in a wide base, which allows the cat to stretch upward on its rear legs and scratch freely without tipping it over.
Based on the planned use, slice the rope to the appropriate length. Position the rope in the preferred area. Carefully apply a fine line of glue along the surface of the rope that will make contact with the wood . Apply the rope onto the wood or glass, aligning the lines you form with the glue.
Manila Rope can be used as an alternative to Sisal Rope that is used as a scratching post for cats . The texture is similar and will be comfortable on the cats claws.
